SOG Conferences

International Political Science Association

Research Committee on the Structure and Organisation of Government

International Conference, Melbourne, June 3 to 5, 2002

Call for Papers

Proposals for papers are now being sought for a conference on the following theme.

Knowledge, Networks, and Joined-Up Government

In recent years we have seen an increased interest in interactions between different levels of government, different parts of government, and between governmental and nongovernmental actors. These developments raise important questions about society-state steering, about government capacity to coordinate complex systems, and about the quality and responsiveness of public services.

Papers for the conference will focus on the theory and practice of collaboration, partnership, joint action, and administrative coordination in contemporary governments.

Papers which treat theoretical issues, analyze relevant data, including case studies, or which focus upon comparative methodologies are welcome.

Proposals should include title, author details and a 100 word abstract and be forwarded by email to;

Professor Mark Considine
mark1@unimelb.edu.au

Note that the conference dates are Monday to Wednesday. A reception for international visitors will be held on the evening of Sunday 2th and this night will obviously be included in the accommodation provision. The conference will conclude midday on Wednesday the 5th.

A special seminar is planned for one of our sponsors, the institute of Public Administration and further details will be provided after the final program is agreed.

Conference sponsored by the Center for Public Policy, University of Melbourne, and the Institute of Public Administration Australia (Victorian Branch).
